Before the pandemic, African music was on the rise, with global stars like Wizkid and Davido making waves even beyond the continent’s shores. Major labels seemed to sense the rhythm, with Sony Music and Warner setting up shop on African soil.
As the world went into lockdown, the music industry faced a tempo change. African artists recorded more success than ever and these major international labels intensified their efforts to work with us. However, this has failed to yield the expected results.
Again, the big question is: Why are major labels struggling in Africa?

September 12, 2023, remains etched in our hearts. It’s the kind of date that feels like a surreal nightmare, the kind that jolts you awake in the middle of the night with beads of sweat clinging to your skin and chills racing down your spine.
On that fateful day, we bid farewell to Mohbad, also known as Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba. His passing left his family, Nigerians, and music enthusiasts heavy-hearted. While his time in the spotlight may have been brief, he etched his name into the annals of music history with hits like “Ponmo,” “Feel Good,” and the infectious “KPK (Ko Por Ke),” showcasing his undeniable talent. Yet, the air of mystery shrouding his demise has made finding closure an elusive pursuit for many.
From the initial announcement of an “ear infection” to the unveiling of various facts that revealed the challenges Mohbad faced before his untimely departure, authorities and concerned individuals have been relentless in their quest to uncover the truth behind his passing and seek justice for this young talent.
Until that day comes, all we can do is offer our prayers for peace for his soul and solace for his loved ones. For a deeper dive into the story, here’s a place that might shed more light on the situation.

However, today’s gist is about Nigerian singer-songwriter, Ayra Starr who has made her mark on the global stage on a journey to stardom has been nothing short of remarkable. Although Ayra Starr has been quite vocal about her dreams of collaborating with international acts, particularly Rihanna, she seems to be actively ticking names off her list!
Her latest collaborative work with David Guetta, a talented producer & DJ and Lil Durk, a renowned Chicago rapper resulted in the lyrical masterpiec — “Big FU” which has since made the headlines. Ayra Starr’s enchanting vocals, coupled with Lil Durk’s lyrical brilliance, and the expert production by David Guetta and Johnny Goldstein creates an unique fusion of sounds.
